I got to Mendoza, another wine region, but decided on some trekking excursion to Aconcagua. I stayed at the youth hostel Campo Base II, which also organizes 3 day, 7 day and 21 day trips to Aconcagua, the highest mountain in SA. I like Mendoza, it has a European feel with lots of outside cafes and restaurants, shopping streets, old buildings, many parks. But my favorite park is the San Martin Park. This park is a beautiful and green place at South Mendoza; there are many interesting points in or near there: the zoo, the summer theatre, the lake and the rose gardens. From here, I walked up the Glory Hill which features an impressive monument remembering the battles of Argentina's national hero General San Martin. From here, one has an excellent view of the city.

Mendoza is the capital of Mendoza Province and is one of the major cities in western Argentina. It is an important city because it is irrigated by several rivers such as the River Mendoza Tunuyán and also because it is strategically located at the foot of the Andes which is the principal road to Santiago de Chile and the Pacific City of Mendoza
City of Mendoza
. Mendoza produces most of the wine and much of the fruit of Argentina.

Mendoza was destroyed by a violent earthquake in 1861. Most of the population fled to nearby areas. Due to this earthquake most of the colonial architecture disappeared and very few evidence is left. To the south-west of this devastated city, the new Mendoza was rebuilt. This city was based on a European city.

There is a central park called ""Plaza Independencia" (Independence Park). Surrounding it there are four more parks. Starting from the north-east and going clockwise the parks are called as follows: Plaza San Martín, Plaza España, Plaza Italia and Plaza Chile.

Mendoza is "ciudad oasis" (oasis city). It is one of the most beautiful cities of Argentina. It is known worldwide as a urban city which has an oasis-like environment.
