After a seven hour boat ride from Ko Phi Phi, we arrived on the beautiful island of Koh Lipe.  We took a speed boat to Hat Yao in the Trang province and then got on the Tiger Line to Koh Lipe.

They dropped us off on Pattaya Beach.  We dropped our bags and Darren walked the beach looking for a place to stay while Kristi stayed with the bags.  This was a common theme with our travels since we each had two backpacks which were difficult to walk around with until we found a room that was doable.

We stayed at Varin Beach Resort the first night and it was definitely a room that wasn't worth the money.  The next day we set out to find a place that was decent and affordable for our budget.  That was when we found Varin 2, our paradise on the beach.  It was a very simple little bamboo bungalow right on the beach.  We stayed here for five days.  It didn't have air con and only had electricity from 6pm-6am, but this place was amazing simply because of the location.

Koh Lipe was a very laid back island located within Turatuao Marine National Park.  Koh Lipe was a fabulous place to end our beach time in Thailand.  We snorkeled, read, played volleyball and got to know our neighbors.  We kicked back on the island and enjoyed our time there.  We met several people on the boat ride to the island that we kept running into.  There was the German couple traveling for a year, and the English girls traveling for five months.  The cool thing about the English girls was that they left from England back in October and they only used ground transportation (no flying) on their trip (which included travel across Russia and Siberia).  It was pretty amazing.  We had two sets of neighbors from Sweden who were very nice, and then there was the French couple...

The first night in our little bungalow, our next door neighbors (the French couple), got in a heated fight and the woman started yelling at her boyfriend, all in French of course.  She's yelling on the porch of their bungalow and he comes up to talk to her and she keeps yelling at him, and eventually proceeds to kick him and punch him.  In between the yelling, he keeps going up to the store for more Chang beer.  This goes on for three hours ending with him throwing her in the ocean.  She stayed out in the ocean for awhile and he seemed to try to get her to come back in.  Eventually she came back, they argued some more and he drug her back out to the ocean.  She ended up sleeping on the porch.  The funny thing is, we came back from dinner the second night and it happened again.  Quite entertaining...those French are so passionate (or nuts).

Our last morning there, we awoke early to watch the sunrise and it was so beautiful.  There weren't many people awake yet, so we were able to enjoy it all to ourselves on our front porch.  We went over to eat breakfast at Sunrise Beach Restaurant, which is where we ate every morning, and grabbed our bags and walked back over to Pattaya Beach to catch the boat.  We went to Krabi to stay one night in order to catch our flight to Bangkok the following day.
