This is where we discovered sand flies.  They're awful!!  Milford was beautiful, but it rained quite a bit and the sand flies were big pests in this region (especially when you're trapped in a small campervan).  They ate us for dinner...

We did a day hike one day and took a boat cruise the next to see Milford Sound.  The day hike was a bit rainy and freezing at the top.  We didn't see much from the top with the cloud cover and gusts of wind and rain.

We took a boat cruise through Milford Sound (Fiord actually) since we weren't able to hike it.  The walk takes three days and requires bookings for the huts through the Department of Conservation.  The huts were booked in advance with it being summer time and we didn't have sleeping bags anyway.  They also have things worked out here to where you need some sort of public transportation to get you to the start.  In this case it was a boat to drop you off at the start and a boat to pick you up at the end.  We found many of their incredible walks to be this way.

Fiordland was a beautiful area, but you definitely need to be prepared for rain often.
