We arrived in Candidasa on the 27th, which of course was Thanksgiving.  We celebrated on Friday since we were a day ahead of you guys back home.

Candidasa is a beach town with virtually no beach.  They mined the barrier reefs for coral back in the 70's to produce lime for cement.  By the 80's, Candidasa was a beach town with no beach.

We did happen to find a "White sand beach" (Pasir Putih) nearby, with the help of the locals and Lonely Planet.  It was a beautiful beach and we were able to do some snorkeling as well.

Once we returned from "White sand beach", we got ready for our "Thanksgiving dinner" at a nice little family warung across the street.  We ordered a traditional Balinese smoked duck for dinner, which we had to order a day in advance.  Anyway, we walked over and noticed a few bugs flying around.  We sat down and the bright light above our table was attracting more and more bugs.  We moved to another table that had a dimmer light...didn't appear to be as many bugs.  We sat there, stared at the bugs, swatted away the bugs and couldn't believe what we were seeing.  Our food starts to come out and the bugs get worse.  Oh, and our smoked duck comes out with the head still on and the feet still attached.  Before we know it we were eating as quickly as we could with one hand shooing bugs and the other trying to eat.  A very tense meal...after about 45 minutes, the bugs started to lose their wings and started crawling around on the floor and tables linked together like they were mating.  At this time without their wings they looked like larvae.  The duck was decent, but had very little meat.  We later found out that it was a young duck that was too small but the owners couldn't find any alternatives at the moment.  We walked out still hungry, a little tense, but was definitely a nontraditional and unforgettable Thanksgiving.
