After all the delay from the boat, we had only 2 days effectively in the park. And what amazing days they were! The weather was good through out, with minimal rain and the last day stunning!
There are 3 major attractions in the park, the Gray glacier, French valley and the Torres (towers). The walk is called the W walk as it looks like a W when walking it (going up 3 valleys).
There were 4 doing the W walk from the 11 of us on the Kambuka tour (the overland company I am travelling with).
Day 1, we left Puerto Natales to only be blocked by a truck in the park meaning we relaxed at the base camp on the edge of the park until it was cleared
Day 2 climbed French valley, a very impressive valley that starts with a huge rock face with constant ice avalanches before ascending into the valley to a very different kind of scenery. Finally we walked down to the lake outside the valley and stayed at dorm rooms in the camp. This allowed us to travel without tents and food and was well worth it. 10 hours of walking!
Day 3 to the towers! We left early to ensure we got back in time, as it turned out, we were much faster than the maps (which didnt indicate the short cut) and by the time we arrived, the towers were simply stunning! By the time we got down, it was 24 hours walking in 46 hours in the park!
Overnight it rained and the next day was raining on route to El Chalten.
