Our last day in Rio ...... we checked out the hostel, leaving our backpacks there.
We took a small backpack and headed for Ipanema beach.
From Copacabana, Ipanema is about a 20 minute walk. We ambled along the famous Copacabana wavy paving and then came around the coastal point onto Ipanema.
Ipanema is a long beach protected by a large mountain on it's west point. We found a spot and enjoyed the sun and the view. Ipanema is more of a family beach, as the waves are supposedly calmer. The beach is right on the sand. As you walk towards the water the sand ends abruptly and the waves are tight there. There is no gentle slow towards deeper water, just a sudden
waist deep drop off, which Jules discovered when she went in and got dumped!
We were both a little concerned about the amount of sun we had had, so we made sure we protected ourselves well.
We decided at about 5pm to walk to the point better Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and wait for the sunset. Jules got her local vendor popcorn and we found a spot to watch the sun go down.
It was a sad moment as we contemplated leaving Rio, as we had enjoyed it immensely. I tried hard to get some good sunset photos, but it is difficult getting other people to take the photos you would like. In the end we had a few good pics which help to depict the mood we were in.
And then it was all over, we had a shower and had our free meal of lasagna, salad and garlic bread. As we had stayed at mellow yellow for 4 nights we were given a free meal. While we were eating, a local guy came along to play some reggae and Brazilian music. We listened to him for a while and then grabbed a cab to the airport.
We arrived at the airport at 11pm, checked in and waited for our 2am flight to Santiago and then Lima.
