Today, we took an excursion to the volcano island of Nea Kameni. It is an actual active volcano and its most recent eruption was in 1950. Its many eruptions dating back to thousands of years B.C. helped to shape the island group of Santorini. On our ship we met some very nice Spanish people who gave us a whole list of restaurants and beaches to visit while in Barcelona in a couple weeks. We think that country will be a lot of fun and the people extremely hospitable.

After exploring the volcano island and its many craters (there was actually steam coming out of one of them), we took a quick swim in the Aegean Sea and then visited the island of Thirassia. There, we ate a lunch of pork and chicken slouvaki and, of course, Danielle had a Greek salad (again). After a little shopping, it was back to the boat and our "home" island of Oia, where we relaxed and enjoyed the view from our balcony once again.

The previous night, we missed our chance at catching what people here say is the best sunset in the world because we dined on the wrong side of the island. So tonight, we found our spot early at a beautiful taverna and took some amazing pictures. We agree...it is the most amazing sunset we've seen. On the way back to the room, we stopped at yet another taverna for a nightcap and met some more friendly people. This time, our new friends were from Slovenia, formerly Yugoslavia. We think that meeting all these wonderful people from all corners of the globe is the real joy of traveling. We are learning about new cultures and hopefully dispelling the notion that Americans only care about themselves (even if it is for just the few people we meet).

We made it an early night because tomorrow morning we are off to the Greek island of Paros. We loved, loved, loved Oia and will miss it dearly...until next time :)
