Midday Temperature 27C

Jan 31 – Feb 1

On Thursday we decided to go to a movie matinee, Django
Unchained. Greg and I were the only ones in the audience and thought we were
going to have a private viewing until four more people arrived just as the show
was starting. Django Unchained is a typical Quentin Tarentino production, weird
humour and lots of violence. Greg and I enjoyed the movie. Most of the story
line takes place in Texas though it looked to
us more like Arizona.

So we left the theatre in the early evening and could hear
thousands and thousands of birds, grackles to be exact. They were roosting in
the trees around us and on the roofs of the buildings. What a racket! What a
sight! And wouldn’t you know it, we didn’t have our camera with us. We asked a
man that was walking in the parking lot about the birds, and he told us not to
worry, that we were not on the set of a Hitchcock film. But it sure felt like

Today, Friday, is our last full day in San Antonio. So we went shopping. First to
the Texas Western
Wearhouse. This store is full of western wear for men and women
and what a selection. Since Yuma
we have been looking, unsuccessfully, for boots for Greg and for myself. Well,
at this store Greg had a difficult decision to make since he found four pairs
of boots that he liked. After trying them on repeatedly, he finally decided on
a pair that look quite snazzy on him. I bought the first pair I tried on and
just love them. Now I have to find a blingy belt. We also did some shopping at
Costco and WalMart, then it was suppertime. Greg said he wanted to go back to
the bird parking lot and wait for sunset. So we bought a couple salads and had
a picnic in the parking lot, waiting for the grackles to arrive. It wasn’t long
before clouds of birds arrived. We could hear them before we could see them.
