Something I forgot to mention in yesterday's blog is about the new housing developments in Saskatchewan. The houses are big, with black shingles, and dark siding either dark gray or dark green, or dark brown. It’s very sobering. Greg calls them gothic communities.

I touched on this earlier, about the community welcoming sculptures. The communities are set up very much the same throughout southern Saskatchewan. There’s a grain elevator and train tracks on one side of the divided highway, and there’s a gas station, small store, and maybe a small restaurant on the other side. There usually is a large metal sculpture at the entrance to the community, usually a prairie theme. Almost all of these sculptures face the traffic coming from the north rather than our direction so we were only to get photos of one of these, the wheat sculpture. Corner Gas also wanted a sculpture, if you saw the program you would remember they wanted a large hoe.

We reached Cold Lake early this afternoon, after a phone call to Will to guide us to their home. Will and Laura have a beautiful home in a very well kept family neighborhood. We are so glad to see Will and Laura, and 7 months pregnant Laura is absolutely glowing. We are here for about a week and I will resume the blog with a summary of our Cold Lake visit.
