Chirripo Mountain is the highest peak in Costa Rica. San Gerardo de Rivas, a small town of 500 people, is one base for those hoping to make the climb. I figured it was a good place to spend Holy Week, the day before Good Friday and Good Friday, during which no buses run, and the vast majority of restaurants, etc. are closed. (And many Ticos and foreigners alike, apparently, go to the beaches.)

I stayed in a room the width of my arm span, and whenever one of the women in the room next to mine coughed, I was pretty sure she was in bed with me (even though I had a twin bed). Beautiful birds, waterfalls, etc. but not as cold as Id expected, so Im off to higher elevations to look for a quetzal (a bird) and to prep my body for the return to the Northeast....

Another good entry to choose view slideshow.
