Monday was a Bank holiday so Matt was off and we decided to do the 2nd tour that the Fat Tire Bike Co offer. This time we met our guide (the same one as the day before), at Waterloo station and headed off on our bikes from there.
Being the bike tour junkies that we are, we had another great day and Michael is now totally confident biking around the streets of London mixing it with the taxis and double decker buses like a natural. It was fantastic to see him racing across Tower Bridge as if that was quite a normal thing to do on a bike in the middle of crazy traffic!

We biked along Southbank, past the London Eye, Tate Modern, Millennium Bridge, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, London Bridge, Clink Prison, Golden Hind replica (Sir Francis Drake's ship...surprisingly small), and then stopped in at the Borough Market for lunch.  Matt took us to a neat Spanish tapas place where we sampled all sorts of delicious treats and Michael learnt how to ask for the bill in yet another language!

Back on the bikes, we navigated our way across Tower Bridge which was rather exhilarating and even more so having just heard the story of the infamous bus driver who in 1954 missed the bell that warned of the bridges opening and as he neared the middle realised they were lifting up so put his foot down and sailed across the gap with a 6 foot drop to the other side.  The conductor broke both his legs but the driver was made a hero and given a ten pound bonus for quick thinking!!
On the other side we stopped outside the Tower of London and then boarded a boat for a 20 minute cruise up the Thames.  The last part of out tour took us to Covent Gardens which was in full swing with bustling markets and great street entertainers.  After a brief stop there to have a look around, we biked back past the Prince Albert Memorial and then made our way back to Waterloo again.
It was a great tour and my description wouldn't be complete without repeating Matt's joke of the day....what do you call two Spanish firemen?  Jose and Jos-b.  LOL

Later in the afternoon Matt and I took the local bus down to Fulham to see where the kids go to school and then round to Fulham Palace which is a lovely oasis in the middle of the busy streets with a big old grand palace, beautiful trees and carved statues and a lovely cottage garden restored to its former glory and providing frest herbs and veges to the palace cafe.
Another short bus ride over the Putney Bridge took us to Putney where we could wander down to the edge of the Thames.  We stopped in for a coffee and looked out over the river which is where the annual Oxford and Cambridge race starts from.

Another great day and a pity we're not going to Barcelona or Berlin where the other Fat Tire Tours are run from!
