Flag of Italy  , Umbria,

Today we made the trip to visit the little town of Assisi. We toured the church of St. Francis. This was a quaint little town where religious roots run deep. I also stopped at the monastery where we met and took pictures with a real life Monk. There were lots of little shops in this town and there were a variety of religious gifts to choose from. Anything from ceramic to wood were available. The stone work and the character of the buildings were amazing. This town had a very different feel from all the rest of the towns/cities we have visited. I think the highlight of this trip was when other students and myself were stopped by two italian women when we left the monastery. They did not speak English and of course we did not speak Italian. Apparently this lady was desperate to communicate with us so she yelled at other italians asking if anyone spoke English. In the next second, we were surrounded by Italians who were fascinated by our natural hair. THey were trying to touch my hair and asking questions about it. I thought it was crazy that they were so intrigued by seeing a group of African American women. Then again, Italy is not a very diverse country in itself so its very possible that they were just curious. After taking pictures and having our space invaded, we were finally able to go on our way. Looking back on it, it was pretty funny :-)
