Today Rob and Mireille gave us a tour of Delft and Den Haag. Delft is a city famous for blue and white painted pottery AND wooden shoes- (they really have them here!), although few actually wear them. The cities here are so beautiful. There are canals between nearly every street with old multi-colored buildings on either side, and BIKES bikes & more bikes... the bikes are EVERYWHERE! In Delft we also had our first taste of Stroopwafels- it is a sweet cookie with a caramel like filling.
In Den Haag we visited the International Criminal Court, the palace of the Queen (they have royal family here), and the beach. We also had our first taste of a famous dutch dish of raw haring with onion- it wasn't nearly as bad as we were expecting, but we have no desire to eat it again.
We are now starting to adjust better to the time change (it is 7hrs later here). The first night Nate actually woke up at 2am and got dressed because he thought it was morning!! We are also enjoying our interactions with the people here. Before we left we were nervous that people wouldn't like us because we are American, but everyone has been SO nice to us! And we are also very lucky that everyone here speaks English in addition to dutch; the language barrier has not been an issue at all. We are so happy to be here! Thank you so much for all of your love and support! We miss you! Love, Nate & Andrea p.s. Nate's suitcase was delivered today!! It had been left in Ireland.... we're just happy to have it back :)
