Lunch at the Cafe Tropical

By the time I come to the restaurant for lunch I pleasantly notice that most of the people have already finished and left. I hate crowds and the hotel is full these days. I can hardly see 25 people in this huge room.

I don't eat complicated dishes and I love light meals. The variety is great, but I stick to salads and fish at this moment.

I am sitting next to an elderly noble lady who has come here with her private taxi driver who is British. His name is Terry, but I miss the lady's name at this moment. I remember Terry however because he handed me his card. The lady comes to the hotel very often she tells me because the food here is exceptional. I am having lunch while they are having their afternoon coffee and we chat a lot.

I am impressed with the culinary triumph of the great chefs in this hotel and much later in the afternoon when I meet one of the managers he tells me that a number of chefs from the hotel were among the 15-strong Cyprus culinary Olympic team. This team participated in the Culinary World Cup which takes place every 4 years in Luxemburg. 26 national teams from around the world with more than 2.500 professional chefs participated in 2010 and three silver medals were brought in Cyprus. The majority of these chefs work in the Four Seasons Hotel. No wonder every single dish looks like a piece of art here.

Oh well, I cannot find words to describe the different delicacies on the buffet later on.  I believe you will understand what I am talking about from the photos.  It is beyond any imagination, so I urge you to see my photos.  The funniest of all is that I want to take a photo with the different gateau so I nicely decorate a small plate which I bring to my table and I take out the camera for a shot.

I was telling the people sitting next to me that I don’t eat sweets so when they see what I carry they smile.  Of course I tell them the reason of carrying it to my table, and although every single piece is irresistible, I just have a tiny bite from each one just to get the idea.

I am sure if I had to put all the bites I had from each piece together, the result would be half a gateau. This is the amount I am talking about!

My friend Charalambos is driving me to Lefkara this afternoon. At first I thought I had plenty of time to get some rest but I receive his unexpected call much earlier telling me that he is already on his way and very close to the hotel.  My God! I surely needed some rest after all those kms I walked in the morning, after swimming for an hour and the worst is that I had lunch only 45 minutes ago. Of course I cannot change the time because he is already on his way and soon he will be outside waiting for me. I only have 20 minutes to get ready!
