HEADING TOWARDS THE MOUNTAINS
I am leaving behind Limassol just after breakfast and I am heading towards the mountains.
P L A T R E S
Platres being one of my favorite resorts, and this time I picked to stay in another beautiful hotel with much history
The Forest Park Hotel
The hotel stands amidst 20 acres of forest and gardens with great history behind.
Forest Park is well preserved and if you are a bit romantic you can imagine the late King Farouk of Egypt, and Princess Royal Mary of England staying here and Daphne du Maurier spending a whole month at the premises writing "Rebecca" ....these to mention a few
Many Arab Sheikhs used to come to this hotel in the late 80's and early 90's.
Having this in mind, be prepared that your stay experience will travel you back to that period.
This family-run business is under the personal supervision of the owners, now in their fourth generation.
CHECK IN: Friendly and swift.
STAFF AND SERVICE: Top notch, and staff were friendly and ready to help.
I spent 3 nights on this visit, but years back when younger I remember staying here a couple of times so the visit brought memories of the past.
The interior was spacious, impeccably clean and comfortable
The pre-filled water jar with cold water was definitely appreciated, as well as the mini bar.
There was a satellite TV... but who cares watching TV if in such a beautiful environment!
The balcony overlooked the beautiful gardens with the very high trees and lush vegetation and much lower, the swimming pool.
I would spend time sitting outside hearing the birds singing. In May, Platres is full of nightingales and this was one of the reasons I am here.
BATHROOM: Normal size, well lit with a bath-tub and several toiletries. Towels were changed daily.
There was ample of everything to fill you up for hours
I was on Bed and Breakfast but I accepted the invitation I had from the owners and dined with them once during my stay. Everything we had was of great taste, and the service was top notch. As a food critic myself, we talked about food and excellent quality wine that night and the next afternoon an amazing surprise expected me.
COMPLIMENTARY TREAT: I was out the day through and returned late that afternoon. Mr. Hercules offered me a glass of some of the family's (150 years-old) precious wine. The Cypriot wine, homemade Commandaria. What a taste! It was a treat to cherish.
It is the perfect spot to unwind
It was so pleasant, the pool was all to myself at least two of the three times I used it, and the music was so inviting to the ears that I would stay there for hours.
I never used the outdoor pool.
WI FI: Not free. I had to buy a card but still I had hardly any access, and only in the lobby. This was the only downside of this stay experience.
There are 2 interesting trails to walk if you are a nature lover. The Kalidonia trail is much easier than the Millomeri and both are interesting. Try to set off early so that you meet others on the way in case you are on your own
The overall experience was pleasant and memorable. I highly recommend this business for short holidays or a weekend getaway the year round for couples, elderly and nature lovers. The unique place to unwind fill your batteries. Nature lovers will adore it.
