After a buffet breakfast I decide to walk for an hour and while walking I make the plans of the day. I want to get used to moving around by bus and since I have plenty of time ahead I decide to get to the city centre by the Blue bus passing just right in front of the hotel.
The Blue bus # 30 suits me perfectly and runs every 10 minutes. The cost is 1 euro for a single ride and if you pay two euro you can have as many rides as you wish for the whole day.
This bus starts from the opposite direction of the Old port, comes to the centre and stops a few metres before the roundabout of the Old Port, and ends up at the New port outside the city
There are dozens of ships visiting the port each week and the containers on the quayside take tones of Cypriot fruit and vegetables across the sea to mainland Europe. The port of Limassol handles 90% of the import and export sea trade of the island.
I cross the street to the right and there are people working in the street. They try to fix this street for more than a year now! I want to get to St. Andrew's street one of the busiest streets in Limassol. As an exceptional shopping centre the city offers the full gamut from ultra-modern to traditional and handmade. There are so many shops to buy anything you wish here. It is most popular with tourists.
There are many quaint buildings with overhanging terraces. I walk pass the beautiful church of Agia Napa and get to the promenade which some years back has been renovated and the seafront is turned into a palm lined wide boulevard open only to pedestrians and cyclists
The promenade runs the whole length of the city’s front.
Time to get back to the hotel after a cup of Greek coffee! I get in the bus and on the way I decide to remain on until the last stop. The driver tells me that it goes as far as one of the hotels I have booked to stay in June so I need to have this ride to check the distance. On the way back I ask the driver to drop me off 4 kms before the hotel so that I get the chance to walk. I come to the hotel half an hour before lunch time is over.
I have a couple of hours to rest and get ready to meet my friends tonight. Toula is picking me from the hotel at 8:30 p.m and we come to meet the others at a popular restaurant for dinner. I am the link that connects my two classmates and their husbands and each time there is such fun. Unfortunately Yianni is not with me on this trip so it is the five of us. We are the only table that always attracts all the attention because we are laughing loudly the whole time.
We communicate so well and I am happy that this day comes to an end with very loving people, people who are true friends. Before we kiss goodnight we arrange to meet again in June.
