My dinner was exceptional and I had the feeling that I was not alone there.

What I liked most was that it was as if everybody knew each other and even the tourists would greet and chat with the locals like close friends.

But this is a NEW DAY, and my aim is to find a way to follow the group of people who are in the village. They are here as guests and the expectations of the hosts are to promote the island of Cyprus.  They are 65, all tour guides coming from the Netherlands and to my surprise they are all women!!

I follow them up to the restaurant where it is arranged to have their breakfast.

The alleys in the village are suddenly crowded with people so early in the morning. I see girls in front of me and right behind me,  all following the same direction….upwards! There are others who come from the opposite side of the village, and I can feel their excitement.  For them it is their last day on the island and surely they can't wait to see which group will be the winner of this competition.  As for me….well I must find the people who are in charge of this event and request to follow them if possible.

Kleopatra is one of the persons in charge at least at this point, and I tell her about my request.  She promises that she will have her contacts and she will let me know before the group leaves, after their breakfast is over.

Several minutes later I am in the car with Kleopatra who is a managing partner of a company called Event Masters.  She tells me that the women are on a 5 day trip and all their expenses are covered by the Cypriot Tourism Organization and also the Cyprus Airlines. We are driving towards Larnaca.  They are here to participate in a kind of competition.  They are all in private cars in groups of 5, and while in Larnaca they will try to film some spots for just 3 minutes depending on what the request is. The competition reminds me of the hidden treasure or something similar and they have to move fast.

Kleopatra suggests that I don’t stay in Larnaca,  but follow her to Lefkara.

The whole of this time we are in the car getting acquainted, she tries to quarterback everything.  This needs accuracy, and taking fast decisions.  If something goes wrong the whole event will be a disaster. She has to talk over the phone throughout the trip.  There are people waiting at Lefkara where an afternoon event is taking place with different games, and other people scattered in different parts of central Larnaca at meeting spots who will guide and help the groups.

There is only one drawback.  She cannot bring me back to Tochni because she will have to go home first, rest if she has time, and return to Tochni for the evening event.

I tell her not to worry and I will try and find somebody who will drive me back.

We are behind the last car of the group, - some younger girls are more excited and they have driven off at once, while others have delayed a lot.  Probably they are those who already know that they don’t have any chance of winning.

We reach Lefkara and Kleopatra introduces me to some people who are also in charge of all this, and I tell her that I shall meet them all at 2:00 pm.

Some minutes before the set time the groups show up one after the other at the school premises where the games are to take place.

During all this time I met a wonderful lady called Pitsa. Somebody introduced her to me, and I went to her house. I tell her how desperate I am, not having an internet access and that I need to check my e mails.  She offers to help me and gives me time to check and do some work on my laptop.

I tell her that she will find my entries as –greekcypriot on the net, and she tells me that she has already read some articles of mine before meeting me.  She invites me to come to her Traditonal House and spend one night after I return from the Mountains and I accept. I leave her house a few minutes before 2:00 o’clock.

Kleopatra introduces me to Mr. Philip Philippou the Manager of Cyprus Airways in the Netherlands and to the journalist who is covering the whole event and accompanies the ladies but whose name I have forgotten.

The event is interesting, and I don’t regret being here with these people today.  In the meantime Athina calls me to see if she can take me along to see how the Cypriot cheese is made –challoumi, but she is happy that I have managed to follow the group.  We arrange to meet in the evening at the party, and I tell her that I am to return once again and see how challoumi is made.

Koulla Fasoulidou and her son, -the lady who is showing the girls how to draw on silver paper and glass, offers to drive me back to Tochni after the event is over.

I am now back and I am enjoying a cup of hot coffee before getting dressed. The groups are already back at least an hour before me.  The girls in the complex are sitting at the benches under the vine in the garden and I can hear them giggle. I can hear the flash from their cameras every now and then.  I peep through my kitchen window but they see me as the light is on, and they ask me to come down. I tell them we shall meet later on as I have to get dressed.   They must have been given a snack, and there are many cans of soft drinks on these benches.

With my coffee in one hand I walk towards the balcony to get the whole picture of what is going on out there by the church.  I see people carrying tables and chairs, and a Cypriot band testing the microphones.  I am sure and it is obvious that it will be an enjoyable evening, just as it was an enjoyable day today out there at Lafkara.

I get back in, take a shower and start dressing for the evening party.

Hi Popi, seems like you had a great time there with the girls. Honestly, I had a difficult time trying to spot you in the group photograph.
