I was driven to Tochni last night and I am spending 3 nights here in the House of
Vasilopoulos. ( www.vasilopouloshouse.com.cy )
Before booking here I checked on other complexes but I was sure that this one makes the difference
I am very attached with the past and this is obvious in every entry I make, especially when I write about Cyprus. I have been to so many hotels and beach resorts in the past, but as years go by and I am still away from my country, I feel the need to return to my roots from time to time and explore places that will remind me of the good old days. It is strange but true. I feel much younger the moment I step on the Cypriot land, and I cannot explain this. Am I too romantic? Who knows? Probably……!
On this trip I will try to spend some time in really Traditional Old Houses in villages that would travel me back. Walk in the cobbled stone alleys, smell the jasmine and garden scents, taste the Greek Cypriot cuisine, and see if there are still people with an open heart, if I can find the hospitality of the true Cypriots of those years. This is the reason I have quit everything back in Greece and simply travel, trying to discover the authenticity of every place. This moment however I am in Cyprus and I am seeking to find all these.
Vasilopoulos Traditional Comlex is just what I had in mind
The view from my balcony is gorgeous. It overlooks the village as the complex is on an amphitheatric slope. It also overlooks the old historic church that attracts many tourists here. From my small kitchen window I can view the garden of the complex with benches under vines.
I have heard so much about Agrotourism, being popular with travelers who set off leaving behind their countries to meet the life of nature and tradition in the Cyprus countryside. Agrotourism is not something you describe but something you experience, so I can't wait to explore this village, mingle with locals and return home with my spirits revived.
