AGROTOURISM IN SKARINOU
Agrotourism is a new trend of an alternative way of holidays which does not necessarily have to do with living on a farm like in other countries.
With the help of the Cyprus Tourism Organization, very old Traditional stone-built houses are restored thus bringing life to these forgotten in the years, villages. Locals who in the past had not much to do, have now become more active and happier seeing all the coming and going of tourists in their little villages. Cypriots are very fond of Agrotourism as well and take advantage of their short breaks even in winter-time to visit these idyllic resorts.
It all started two months ago when I was in Larnaca and on our way to Limassol I had a pleasant surprise when we stopped for a cup of coffee in SKARINOU village
THE VILLAGE OF SKARINOU
SKARINOU which dates back to the Mediaeval times is considered to have a privileged position on a hill with a panoramic view only 15 minutes from Larnaca. Its lush vegetation is mainly of olive and carob trees that surround the village which preserves its traditional architecture, with narrow, winding and paved with flagstones, streets.
THE AGROTOURISM COMPLEX
I chose to stay at COSMAS' House, an 18th century building.
In the same paved internal courtyard of this complex there are a number of other houses like MICHALIS' House, ANNA’S House, and LITO’S house
The courtyard connects with the swimming pool, but because it is March the swimming pool is without water and covered instead. (I am not very fond of swimming pools anyway). The nearby beach however is that of Zygi which is just 10 minutes drive from the village.
My stay here is pleasant and I am amazed from the locals’ hospitality.
At first they seem surprised seeing me all alone walking through the village’s streets early in the mornings and late in the afternoons, and I remember there were two times when I had been invited for a cup of coffee and the last evening of my stay I was invited by a very polite couple to join them for a glass of wine and some meze as they call it here
So, anybody visiting this beautiful little village of Skarinou will indeed have a remarkable time.
The Agrotourism Complex will amaze you, and you will relax and have fun.
There is much to see and do in the round area as well.
