The time of our departure for Patras is 6 a.m.
Usually we have to tell people come earlier just to be sure that no one will be late. I noticed that I mention the word -we, because a couple of years ago I was the secretary of this choir, so we had to tell members what to do. Luckily I am not any more. It seems that I have not much time to deal with this now. Anyway, it was quarter past six when we set off. We are driving to Patras, but on our return we are coming back through Kilini which makes the sailing trip shorter. The trip lasts three and a half hours from Patras, and just one and a half from Kilini.
The trip is pleasant, as we are all friends here!
We tell jokes and from time to time I have to switch on the laptop to get in touch with my family in Cyprus and answer my e mails
Just one or two of my friends here in Greece know about this site, and my entries, and many of them were curious to see what I am doing. Many of them don't know English, and the other reason is that I just don’t wish to tell them what I am doing. A couple of them seeing me writing they thought that I have become a reporter or a writer all of a sudden, and others asked if I am going to operate a travel agency. Because they don’t seem to understand, I only smile and tell them just to wait and see. In this way I made them more curious. My friends are scattered all around, and the majority seems to be very excited because it is the first time they come to Kefalonia. This is my 4th time visiting the island.
To be honest, I am not fond of these trips with the choir.
They turn out to be too tiring most of the times, and usually I don’t follow
It is cloudy outside, and from time to time the boat is rocking.
When I try to walk to some friends, I find that I cannot keep my balance and the others laugh. Everyone who tries walking seems to be as if he is under the influence of liquor.
We reach the island, and we are driven to the hotel. Unfortunately the hotel is not in Argostoli - the capital.
The rooms are o.k. We are stuck here and this makes me angry. When you go with a choir, you cannot do what you want especially before the performance. Here is worse, because it is raining outside, and we are far away from anything
By the time we were driven to Argostoli and meet the people there, we are all so hungry because it is already late and we had just a sandwich on board the ship. The time is already 9 pm.
We all need something to eat before the performance, otherwise we cannot enjoy the performance with an empty stomach.
I am glad that at the very back of the room the people have some snacks for us, wine and soft drinks. I am sure I was the first one to touch anything, and when the others saw me picking something, the whole choir ran towards me to pick their portion. Thank God the snacks were there!
It is their 25th Choir meeting celebration and there are some more choirs here on the island
I wonder why they did not buy air tickets. Were they so poor?
I cannot imagine my self traveling in the Mediterranean for so many hours if I can fly.
Before going to Kefalonia I was planning to talk to them, but I don’t feel like doing it when I get here. The reason is that the weather outside makes me feel nervous, and this time we are far too many people in the choir. The conductor took people from two other choirs of his – even though I know almost everyone – yet I think we are too many this time.
It seems that I don’t enjoy these trips with the choir any more, especially if there is so much crowd.
Am I getting older, or am I becoming more demanding?
