We are visiting Doha in a few days and for me it is another challenge. It sounds interesting and more or less I can imagine what to expect.

I have heard that it is not actually a country that attracts many tourists –mostly businessmen visit it but at least we take the trip in a nice season and we are going to spend some time with our children there.

With this coming trip we are in a way extending 2 more weeks our summer holidays. The weather has changed in Greece and it has been raining continuously the last 3 days. On the other hand in Qatar the temperature gets better and better each day. We chose to fly this time of year to avoid heat and humidity, even though tickets are very expensive. We cannot stand the heat, humidity and dust! The other reason is that it is a Holiday season in Qatar and businesses and schools are closed so we shall spend more time with our children.

I don't expect to see much natural beauty of course but I want to feel how it is to walk in a modern city built on sand.  I am ready for it. I believe it would have been hard for me to stay longer than a month the maximum out there if I had to. It is however a country that treasures the past and welcomes the future and this makes me look forward to visiting it.

My aim is to travel you virtually and make you feel and see what I see through photos and videos.  I don't know how well I can do that and I know for sure that it is a country that people get bothered if they see you taking photos and of course I don’t want to find myself in jail. Laws are very strict out in Qatar but I will do my best.

I did some studying these last few days on Doha and I can’t wait to take you along to the Opera House. We have already arranged for the tickets. I also want to visit one or two museums, see a few hotels and dine in some nice restaurants. I like trying different cuisines and I am ready for a kilo which I am sure I will gain ….but ready to lose it when back. (lol)  Definitely you won’t find me going shopping or spending time in Malls to buy clothes or accessories. I wish I find the time to visit the fish market and buy prawns, lobsters and fish which I love, and also buy several exotic fruit. I am not interested on markets with souvenirs or anything similar.

Ok. Are you ready for the trip? If yes, fasten your seat belts, sit comfortably….the plane won’t be waiting too long on the ground!  Make up your mind if you are to follow or stay back.

I expect your comments as always and I hope I see new followers joining us on this new trip.

We are traveling through Istanbul. Time of departure 15.15 –landing 16.35, and we have to wait till 21.15 to take the next flight to Doha.

I don’t know how but we did not feel that we had to wait that long, probably because we knew that at the other end our children would be waiting for us.

At 21.15 sharp the plane takes off and we land at 01.5 much earlier than the expected time.  Our luggage is among the first and full of anxienty we head for the exit trying to spot George and Persa.

Alas! Where are they!!

"It can’t be" Yianni adds, and with his eyes tries to spot them.

It is obvious that he is a bit disappointed. We never thought that we would come 15 minutes earlier and be the first to pick our luggage!

George and Persa show up 15 minutes later while we are waiting outside the building.

It is humid and warm just like when we visited Thailand some years back. My soft and shiny hair is curly by now.

There is hugging and kissing of course, huge smiles and excitement in the air. Luggage is loaded in the trunk and we are off.

Twenty minutes later we are home. Everything is so familiar here because there is not a single day without a video or photos sent to us from our children through Dropbox. I know where everything is and it is as if I am in my own home.

I will continue tomorrow with the first impressions when I see everything in the daylight. It is already late….time to get some sleep.
