With only 17 nautical miles south o Piraeus the ship's bow turns towards Agina. I was wondering all this time where the hell the seagulls are….but they are here now as if they are welcoming us. I love them but it is always a disaster when I try taking pictures of them.
Anyway the Lighthouse pops out and then as the ship moves on, the neoclassical buildings unfold, the many yachts in the harbor and I truly cannot wait to disembark and do some site-seeing. I know three nights are not enough but we shall try to make the most of this trip.
I have come up with some guides stating that Aegina is the ideal place to stay if you want to explore Athens, but I will discourage you from doing so. This is totally wrong.
Such plan might be overly cumbersome.
The ferries and hydrofoils do make frequent trips to Piraeus daily but you would also have to reach Athens from Piraeus and all this would prove to be not only expensive but will add considerable commuting time to your daily itinerary.
Don't forget that strikes do occur quite often lately with the economic crisis.
