Beach Holidays in Larnaca!

My second two week trip in less than 2 months finishes in 2 days and as I am having my 2nd cup of coffee this morning and writing this sentence I notice that I am referring to this number several times. Isn't it weird?

My suite reminds me of holidays in a tropical island and the style and decoration of it takes me back to holidays in Koh Samui andAsia in general. Yes, I am enjoying this 2nd cup of coffee while sorting my things as I don't want to lose more time. I want to get to the beach.

The plan of the day is …beach holidays! This means that I shall spend much time at the beach both in the morning and again in the afternoon and I plan to do the same tomorrow even the last morning before I leave. I don’t plan to leave the premises at all this time. In the meantime I expect my sister to join me who is supposed to stay with me the two nights here.

The hotel is almost full and everyone is out at the beachfront under umbrellas enjoying their beach holidays. I only wonder if there is any vacant seat left. The time is 12.30 p.m and the sun is high up in the sky. I know it is not a good timing but I have no intention of getting burned, -I am already tanned and as always I carry along the appropriate lotion.

There is direct access to the beach and the umbrellas and sun beds are not extended only in the beautiful exotic garden with the blue-grass and Palm trees but scattered from one end of the coast to the other. The two swimming pools are arrayed with families mostly, but it is one of the hotels that people are not bound just around the pool areas. Tourists here come for the beach as well. Seats are scattered up to the end of the coastal waters. I am actually looking for a seat in this area and….Yes! There is a vacant seat for me. The ideal place I was dreaming to find. I feel as if the seat was put there for me -a metre from the water.

I rarely need a seat and never pay to have one (unless it is free) because most of the time I am in the water swimming. I can swim for hours without getting out for a second. For this reason I don’t carry books or magazines as most tourists do.

There is not any extra charge for beds or umbrellas for residents of the hotel and there is an extra plastic side stool for drinks. It is amazing because in some hotels you have to pay extra for these facilities so if somebody plans to stay long these expenses are highly to be considered. Usually tourists who come for beach holidays spend 2 weeks, -the least a week. The cost is 2.50 x 2.50 euro per person for a bed and umbrella each day.  In some hotels the free seats are the ones in the garden only and those who prefer to be right on the coast–like me, have to pay this extra charge for these facilities. (This money goes directly to the Municipality of each city and there is a guy who shows up to get paid and hands you the receipt).

I believe there is not a better beach in Larnaca with shallow lagoon like sea bathing waters (ideal for children). It is very different to the one in Latchi where I was 2 days ago. The waters are shallow then they get deeper, again shallow until you get to the very deep part. This is where I swim and the water here is much cooler. Something else I like with this particular beach is walking up and down the coast while in the shallow water. You will see many tourists doing this if you come here. It is said that you get a nicer tan if you are walking in the water than walking out on the sand or when on a sun bed because the sun reflects in the water and you get colour instantly.

There is a long beach pathway that starts a mile back towards Larnaca, and extends out towards Dhekelia for another mile or two.  Each year when I come to Larnaca I notice that the municipality is working on it trying to have it extended up to the borders of the British basis to the very last hotel on the coast.  It is ideal for walking and exercising and it is always busy starting from early dawn till very late at night. It is busy even during winter months. Don’t forget that at 05:00 dawn it is daylight here!  I remember doing it myself, and this is one of the reasons I enjoy staying here. Some years back I would walk and then spend most of the mornings swimming out here opposite the Palm Beach. The beautiful surroundings and these Palm trees around create an exotic atmosphere and you feel as if you are having holidays in a paradise island. You see, my sister’s flat was in short distance and I had for years a 2 week holiday with her. How I long for those days!

My sister has not showed up all this time that I was swimming and I am kind of disappointed. It is already 2:30 p.m and I am on my way back to the suite. I am outside the Leisure Club when she calls to tell me that she is coming much later but does not know exactly when. She is waiting for somebody to fix the water pipe that carries water to the apartment and it is unsure when the job finishes.

I stop at the Leisure club on my way to the room. I have heard from friends that it is popular and dropped to see if there is any special discount for the residents of the hotel. To make story short I book a body massage for tomorrow and I hurry back to my room because the sun is burning hot -I cannot stand it longer and hurry to get cool.
As I pass through the gardens I see that the hibiscus flowers match with the colour of the suite’s interior so I decide to create 3 different flower arrangements to beautify my space although there is already a vase of white flowers in the suite.

(To my surprise now that I download the photos I cannot trace the other two)!!

There is a sweet surprise waiting for me. No it is not my sister waiting outside but I find a nice complimentary treat. It is French champagne and a bowl of seasonal fruit. What a nice treat indeed!

A great blog , mate . I am really missing the Summer Sun . I wish the endless rain would end soon . Good old Yorkshire is flooded and soggy with every kind of rain known to nature ; from thin drizzle to torrential downpour each and every day .
Endless thunder and lightening night and day . O for a drop of sunshine and a warm wind ........ a peaceful beach under electric blue skies ...... dream on Geoff , mate , dream on .

Hi Geoff, I can understand and I am sure how you long the trip you had in Cyprus last year visiting Ayia Napa and Protaras. If this is the kind of weather in the U.K now that is summer, what will be the winter I wonder! Thanks for your nice words.

You mention a British base. Maybe Geoff should join the army and get based in Cyprus. That must be a really plum posting. Beats Afghanistan any day!

No, it is not Geoff but Derrick ....
Geoff spent his holidays in Cyprus last year. It is Derrick's turn after the long trip he has. I think he would love to spend a month here at least.

Join the Army ........too late for that now . Anyhow , I spent twenty two years in the military and I saw some wonderful ; some not so wonderful , places all around the world . Never got to the British base in southern Cyrus though .
I reckon the Siren call of Cyrus is too strong to resist for too much longer . The folk there are wonderful : friendly , welcoming , down to earth and good fun .
It`s one of those places that I liked instantly ; the moment I got off the plane in fact . Yes my friends , methinks it time for Geoffrey to go on another adventure ....

How nice to be back in Cyprus again Geoff.
Are you planning going to Ayia Napa again, or visit another place this time.
Avoid going in August is too hot and humid, and book for September ...even October is ideal out there. I am thinking of going there the ned of Septeber too.
