The "Le Spa" of the Le Meridien in Limassol is conisdered to be the Top among the very best in the island by the Conde Nast Traveller and I believe it is the Jewel of the Resort. It is impressive with its alluring décor, soothing waterfalls, mosaic tiled pools that create an inviting and tranquil ambiance in the unique Talassotherapy Spa.

As I mentioned on a previous entry I am having two Thalassotherapy treatments and today I am having the first one.

The whole session lasts 75 minutes and Stavro is the guy who is supervising me. At first sight I keep staring the first pool which I find kind of weird and wonder how it will be to get in that greenish smelly pool.

This smell however is the secret of the therapy. Stavros seems clear and his instructions are strict concerning this first pool. I am to relax on my back and he hands me a pillow-like thing to put around my neck.

“Just relax but don't dare try to bend” he recommends.

“But why” I answer, “I know well how to swim”

He tells me that the body is going to float above the water but if I try to change position my head will be in the water.

I slowly step down the three stairs and I am soon in the proper position while the body indeed floats in a very strange way. It reminds me when I was swimming in Sharm el-Sheikh years back but of course this kind of floating is beyond compare. I have to press down my feet to have them in the water and all this time I make rounds around the central pillar. I feel like a floating plastic beach ball.  I have to admit that this first attempt is awkward -probably because my curiosity is killing me and I want to try to change position and with this in mind I am restless and I cannot enjoy it.  Two or three minutes before the session is over I decide to slightly change position and test this mysterious floating experience, first hand.

…..and here I am losing my balance for a second.

Stupid me! Some drops of this water are on my face and the moment I turn back to the proper position on or two drops come to my eyes. I cannot help it since my hands are already wet. The pain is unbearable and I rush out of the pool with half closed eyes immediately. I get straight to the shower pool.

Serves me right!

Stavro shows up and tries to help (I guess there is a camera where he stands and he watches all movements). I have to wash my eyes with fresh water and I feel as if I have pins in them.

The second attempt the following day is much more relaxing and surely I did not play with the water this time.

I had Stavro show me the way to the second and third pool where the temperature is different but the very best one is the 4th session. This last swimming pool is equipped with water sprinkler systems, strong jets and underwater hydro massage devices that relax unbelievably and invigorate the entire body.

The key target of this therapy is to produce blood circulation increase as the therapist of the Spa informed me and this is caused by the reduction of depletion of vital minerals which happens due to bad diet, pollution and stress. Now the chemical properties of seawater are same as that of a human blood and heated water helps the body temperature to find minerals like magnesium, potassium and calcium that can be absorbed by the skin. The absorption of these minerals helps in increase of blood circulation and produces positive effect on skin pores. It induces relaxation and allows the body’s skeletal frame to relax completely whilst floating. It is also ideal for detoxification.

Stavro happens to come from the beautiful village that I have included visiting on this trip. What a coincidence!  In fact I am expected to go there tomorrow and I try to absorb as much information as possible.  to visit tomorrow, so I try to get as much information as possible.
