Edipsos – Thermal Therapeutic waters

Edipsos is considered to be the Spa Capital of Greece, and this is where I am heading to this time in an attempt to add another beautiful Greek destination in my Guides.

It is a very popular destination found in the North area of the island of Evia, a magical well developed for tourism town with beautiful beaches to help to relax and unwind the heart and mind. With its rich vegetation and flourishing nature it makes it a treat of a unique holiday destination the year round.

With a history going back from ancient times as far as mythology goes, the town of Edipsos used to be a popular resort of the Romans. Throughout the years it is a hospitable place of attraction visited by numerous Emperors, Generals and Senators. Amongst them the Emperor Marcus Aurelious, Andrien and the General Schylla who would come here combining cure and pleasure.

The Belle Epoque of Edipsos is marked the beginning of the 20th century when its wide reputation and proven healing properties of its thermal springs, attract a multitude of affluent citizens. Famous artists and film stars like Greta Garbo, Maria Callas, Churchill, the British conservative Politician, Aristotle Onassis a prominent Greek born-Argentinean shipping magnate are a few to mention. All left their mark on the town proclaiming worldwide the miraculous qualities of the thermal waters.

The local Spa's continues to flourish the turn of the 21st century, but nature would not give its secrets away easily.

"Spa" means health through water and Edipsos has surely known about this the last 3.000 years.

Through the water and ion channels -by means of thermal spring water the human body can draw at least twenty trace elements that are essential for its function. The water is rich in minerals and very essential to promote the healthy functioning of the cells and the myoskeletal system, restoring, smoothing and revitalizing the skin.
