The Caribbean-like beaches of Protaras!

Unbelievable stretches of clean white sand and crystal turquoise waters. I have travelled to more than 36 countries have swam in unbelievably beautiful coasts and exotic beaches, but what I find here makes me think of how privileged we Cypriots are. I mention this because usually we don't appreciate what we have around us. The island’s beaches might not be exactly exotic but they are unbelievably beautiful and safe. If this is not fascinating then what!

It is October and there is much activity on the beach with parachuting and skiing (awesome activities but costly) with lots of cruise ships taking tourists around the coasts, several diving schools and everyone chooses the activity that suits him according to his interests. Name the sport you like and you have it but have in mind that it might take you 4 hours off work for a 15 minute rental of a jet ski for instance. I tend to gaze wistfully while swimming and I never sunbathe so this is not a problem with hiring a beach bed or an umbrella. Of course many are those who laze under an umbrella and just relax. This time of season you find mostly families with kids or elder people. Another thing one should have in mind when coming here is the fact that beach beds and umbrellas cost 2.5 X 2 and the money goes to the community. Hotels offer these facilities for free on their premises but they are a bit further up the coast. This fee stands for the majority of beaches on the island.

Odessa is the hotel I am staying at and belongs to the family run Cypriot Company of Tsokkos, -the name only guarantees memorable holidays. There are 18 or 19 hotels under this name only in Protaras, and more in Ayia Napa and throughout Cyprus. These hotels are very popular not only with locals but tourists as well. Odessa is very close to the popular beach of the Fig Tree bay.

For me the second half of May, September and October are the best months to visit. Surely younger people prefer coming in June, July or August when pubs discos and beaches are even more crowded. There is music all over, but not always ideal for family holidays.  It all depends on what one is after! I need to add that the majority of hotels in Protaras and Ayia Napa close the end of October and open again in May, so tourists should know this. I visited Ayia Napa in March last year and it was disappointing. It looked like a haunted city!

Odessa is actually the very last hotel I visit before going up to the mountains.

Have a look on my review to find more about this wonderful hotel and see the photos of the entry which I am sharing with you.
