"PLATANOS RESTAURANT" Lunch in Paridisi in Evia

To be honest, there was much work going on in the yard of “Mouries” and if we wanted to have lunch we had to sit indoors. It was a lovely day and we did not want to spoil this outing. Sitting out would be a problem from the noise of the work which was in progress here.
Seeing Yianni approaching because he recognized somebody and he started talking with him, and later moving towards the entrance I called him back and we arranged to sit at the neighboring restaurant which was crowded but this did not bother us at all.
There were mostly retired people coming from Athens to Marmari by ferry for a day trip
We, on the other hand found the older owner of the restaurant Mr. Yiorgos whose nickname is Yiovanis. It is with this nickname that he is known all over. The restaurant “Platanos” is a family business and seeing him around we asked him to join us. Yianni's grandfather comes from one of the nearby villages and as always my husband tries to find people who might know his family. I love stories from older people and I was all ears hearing about life in the village, him telling us about his sheep and goats, and the story of the restaurant that goes on from generation to generation.
He showed us with pride his grandson who will undertake the business in the long run and mentioned the fact that the boy is a student now studying to become a chef. This restaurant opened in 1893 by Mr. Yiorgos the great grandfather who had the same name. The funniest of all is that the grandson is named Yiorgos as well.
We did not regret coming here at all
Of course on another visit I might go to Mouries Restaurant as I am sure they also have just as good dishes as this one.
I had the tastiest chops of a lifetime here. The reason is that sheep and goats in certain places in Evia drink sea water and this makes the meat delicious. Has anybody else heard this?
We were served the freshest and greenest bean salad only been picked from the family’s garden earlier that morning. Everything was local, and the red wine was the wine the family has for their family which they make themselves! Everything was top quality, tasty and fresh.
In all it was a nice half day trip which we enjoyed.
