Flying Back to Athens!

Today is the 8th day for me in St. Petersburg, the day that I fly back to Greece.

All this time being here with Katia's family I feel as if I were home.

I will never forget Liza the youngest girl coming in my room hugging and kissing me when she was back from school.

How can I forget Katia and the many hours we spent together going here and there….and how she used to interpret from English to Russian for Alexei.

Maria, the second girl, reminds me of the wind! She is like a pixie…the way she moves, the way she speaks, the way she expresses herself… A talented youngster, a musician, a beautiful girl !

Alexei, …..he surely wished he could speak English! He took days off his work because I was with them to take us around. A good-hearted man, very religious, and good father and husband.

Mrs. Irene whom I met one two days before leaving. Pity that she was in the country-house most of the days.

Anna the 22 year old 3rd girl I met a couple of hours before leaving for Greece.

I did not have the chance to know her better but I can tell that she is just as good

girl as the other two girls.

Orpheus, impressed me with his Greek name!  So beautiful, and clever.  He can understand everything! Patiently waiting for his meals!

Before I finish this blog I want to write down the general picture I got from this visit here in St. Petersburg.

I had the chance to chat with locals and most of these people want to run away giving an opportunity to their families, their kids trying to find refuge in other countries.  The majority of people cannot save a single penny because the money they get is not enough to cover the expenses of the month.

Yes, there are huge Supermarkets with a variety of all kinds of things, but the question is…..Who buys?  Even for us Europeans it is an expensive country.

Restaurants are even more expensive, and only the very rich can afford to enter them

A beautiful country ….yes, but without prospects for the middle and lower class.

I will never forget the time we spent filling forms, paying money, sealing envelopes with my data mailed directly to the government, and the long queue and time spent to pass through the check point at the airport!!

In all it was a wonderful trip, made new friends, but felt so sorry for the people I leave behind, because of the way the country treats its people!
