Coffee break....and the Kazan Cathedral

It is an exhausting but very interesting day today, and we decide to have a coffee break before going to the KAZAN Cathedral. We have been walking for hours so a nice cup of coffee would liven us up.  We enter a nice bakery and as usual I want to avoid anything sweet.  There is a great variety of different tarts and pies, and we both ask for a spinach pie

There is some light music coming to my ears. It is soft and romantic and the designs on the ceiling of the bakery prove that the owner must be a romantic person with a good taste. The French songs are old classics and I can be sitting for hours in here just listening to them. I hope the pie which we have ordered tastes good, just as the songs and music I hear.

But ALAS!!!! I am not satisfied with what we are brought. It is very disappointing to me! I expect to have something like a cheese and spinach pie, but it is actually an omelette pie!!  (lol) This is what we have named it.

We chat a lot with Katerina, she tells me of how disappointed she is with her country, and I tell her how disappointed I am with the pie we are eating!

I am happy that Katerina is all this time with me, and a great walker as well.

We leave the bakery which is very near the Kazan Cathedral, and we find

a long line of people who are standing in a queue waiting to worship the icon of Virgin Mary.  At first we stand behind the queue for some minutes but we notice that each person spends more than 4 or 5 minutes in front of the icon so we decide to move on

This Cathedral is particularly remarkable for the widespread wings of its monumental colonnades.  It is consecrated to the Kazan icon of the Mother of God. The crypt of the cathedral is the burial place of Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov-Smolensky.

Late this the afternoon before going home, we pass from a big supermarket and buy some things for the house.  We must have walked more than 8 kms today, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

It sounds like you had a very lovely day and 8 kilometers of walking must have been very exhaustive.
