Besides the Russian Museum, we also visit the Church of the Resurrection, called the Saviour-on-the Spilt-Blood. This Cathedral is a gem of architecture, and a precious piece of work. It is made of glazed bricks, colored tiles, marble, mosaics, fancy-shaped stone details and smalt in an endless variety of shades. I cannot stop taking photos, first outside and my hands are really cold.
I am not satisied with the result of some of the photos I have taken inside because the light coming through the windows of the Cathedral made it impossible for me to take the pictures I was dreaming of taking
The artistic concept of the Cathedral goes back to examples of Moscow and Yaroslavl architecture and particularly to the famous Moscow Intercession Cathedral known also
as the Cathedral of St. Basil the Blessed and dated from the middle of the 16th century.
The interior of the Cathedral is comparable to a tabernacle decorated all over with mosaic representations of Old and New Testament subjects.
I am amazed with the beauty here, and I strongly believe that my trip to St. Petersburg is worth every penny I spend here.
Katerina is an excellent guide, and together we enjoy each other's company.
