The warm hospitality of locals.....in Vitalo in Evia.

On our way back to Kymi, at the village of Vitalo I see an orchard with some Apple trees. I tell Yianni to stop the car for a few minutes as I want to take a photo of one ripe apple that I have seen.  I get in the orchard and try to get a nice photo. With my fingers I try to move the leaves back, but the apple remains in my palm.

I have no idea that there is a house behind the orchard and that the owner is watching me from a distance, ……and suddenly I hear him inviting us to his house. At first I thought he would be angry with me, and I move towards him telling him about the photo holding the apple in my hand.

He is so polite and insists that we park the car and have a cold drink with them.

I get to the house first and Yianni follows. I am amazed!

This is exactly the right place I am looking for! What a coincidence!!

The whole house is surrounded by a big orchard.  There are Apple and Almond trees, Pomegranate, Prune and Fig trees. I grab the opportunity to take plenty of photos of the orchard and then I have another surprise. I am told that at the back yard I can find Dry Figs……just what I was looking for. I have never seen the whole process of how figs are dried out in the sun and  I was planning to ask somebody in Kymi to show me where to go. Indeed I am lucky today.

We are offered a cold glass of wild cherry syrup and cherries in the glass, and a plate of fresh prunes from the orchard. Now I know exactly the whole process of drying figs, have plenty of photos, and have enjoyed the hospitality of the locals. I am so pleased!

I want to thank Mr. George and Zacharoulla Lagos. Their village is called Vitalo, and it is famous for its lovely Cherries!
Before leaving we are even offered dried figs to take home with us -about a kilo as a gift.

Fondest Memory: We are impressed with the warm hospitality of these people at Vitalo.

Thank you so much Mr Lagos! One thing is for sure…..we are going back for more figs very soon.

The dry figs of Kymi are supposed to be the best and most popular in Greece.

For those who want to buy Dry Figs from Kymi, they can get in touch with Mr. Lagos. His figs are really exceptional believe me.
His phone number is  6977 993665 or  6977 993665.
