A dream coming true!  Unbelievable….

Just a 30 minute flight from Athens you are there!

An advise is to book a nice hotel because it's the full package that counts.  You will adore this island, and you will be dreaming of it for at least a month after your trip is over.  At least this is what happened to me.

Our car was waiting for us just outside the airport for quite cheap I can admit….70 euros for 3 days!  A brand new one, and we were told that we were the 2nd to hire it.  It smelled new too!

We opened the map and were directed to Oia where we had made reservations through Easyjet.  The hotel called "The Sunset Hotel" and we had a warm welcome by the director of the resort.  Offered a cold bottle of water for a welcome, and we were anxiously waiting to be directed to tour apartment.

There were only 2 other couples at the hotel, but they were expecting tourists a week later because of the Greek Easter.  The apartment very nice and clean, newly painted, and the tv tells you the whole story of the island, the Volcano, and everything you need to know about this beautiful island.

We left our luggage and ran out to explore the place…..Just 2 minutes on foot we came to the right spot!  What a place!  We could not believe what we saw.  IT CANNOT BE DESCRIBED.  One has to actually get there to feel this

For us, the timing was just perfect because tourists are expected to arrive a week later, so we had all the attention we needed, and all the quiet and privacy as well.

A tip here for visitors

If you are young you will be thrilled going there the peak season….but if you are a bit older and you are a traveller who goes there to really relax and enjoy this paradise, ….do go when tourists leave or before they come.

The other hotel was supposed to be even better, and the next day we were looking forward to going to Fyra.  We were the first to arrive there the hotel manager told us, so when I asked to – at least be given a nice room, the answer was that we will be given the BEST ONE for the same amount of money.

We were given our keys and we were anxious to get in.  A bottle of wine with a bunch of red roses were there for us…..and an unbelievable view of Kaldera.

How picturesque this island is.  The shapes and colours of the many small houses, the shops and restaurants.  A stroll to the old city is a must.

Try to avoid the ride with the poor donkeys.  You should see how tired these animals are when climbing back all those stairs from the small port where sailing boats take you to the volcanic island just in front of Kaldera. If you happen to have a room at Kaldera you will see the boats, and ships sailing around the island… can even listen to the music and talks from the ships. That’s how close our hotel was!

What an unbelievable Sunset!!

Don’t leave Greece without visiting Santorini  - you will regret it otherwise.

We visited the whole island and it is worth renting a car.  I don’t suggest Greeks  going there with their own cars by the way, as it is cheaper if you rent a car there.

We left the island but did not visit the volcano.  This will probably do the next time we come here, because we will.

The time for us to leave and we are glad that our hotel was very near the main square where the Metropolis is.  I could imagine myself carrying suitcases and handbags all the way up those stairs!!!

While waiting for the man to come and pick the car and drive us to the airport, I promised myself to come back to this beautiful island again soon.
