So this is it! The big day has arrived and we have started our trip. OK it's only Sydney but we have to start somewhere. We drove to Armidale with Lisa's mum Trish who is looking after our car. Cold wet and windy at Armidale airport (how unusual at this time of year). Our flight is delayed an hour which normally wouldn't have  worried us but we had made lunch reservations in Sydney. Flight was  OK, a little bit bumpy and the landing was a bit rough but OK. At this stage we are running abour an hour behind schedule but we should make our lunch appointment. The we struck our next hurdle. It is ANZAC day and the city is totally blocked off. There are police at all the road blocks making sure that no-one is getting in. This is nuts because the parade had finished hours ago and didn't even go down Philip Street which is where we want to go. After about five blocks I get the cabbie to stop so we could walk into the hotel. We rang the restaurant to let them know we are running late. Arrive at Pier restaurant about 2.00pm (about an hou late) but it didn't seem to matter as that was when the locals all started to arrive. Pier is a fabulous restaurant, great food, great wine list (expensive) and fantastic service. After lunch we returned to our hotel (Sofitel Wentworth). The hotel has just had a make-over and is fabulous. The staff were very attentive and our room was great. That evening we went to see Billy Elliott the musical. It was a fantastic show and I can highly recommend it. So that's it, I have made my first entry. I will try to keep it up.
