Stopping to eat at a little café in one of the small towns I've been passing through I read the local paper while I'm waiting. I learn that a 58-year-old-man was sentenced for calling up the Sheriff's Department and telling the deputy who answered the phone that if deputies didn't stop bothering his family he was going to shoot the next deputy that showed up. I also learn about some of the social calls that local people made on each other and see a picture of the section of road that was destroyed resulting in my detour
I continue along the 16 enjoying the beautiful scenery and winding roads to the 23, which I follow south back to I40. I'll be staying on I40 for a while now because I need to be at Steve and Linda's home in Albuquerque, New Mexico tomorrow.
I pass through Fort Smith and into Oklahoma. The terrain gradually morphs into flat grassland that's growing hay or supporting cattle. I stop for the night at a campground by a lake formed by a reservoir, Foss Lake, west of Oklahoma City. Virtually all of Oklahoma's lakes are artificial.
