Entry 3 of 6 | show all | print this entry

One of the places that I wanted to checkout in Berlin was Tresor Club.  This is the only club in Europe that I know by name and has been legendary for underground techno for years and quite possibly the most well known club in the world (arguably).  Well if there's one thing I learned quickly about Berlin is that my American Eastern Standard Time body is geared for German partying.  Why?  Because when it's midnight in Berlin my body is still living in 5pm back home.  So I have about 8 hours left before I start to really feel tired.  That's 8am.  That's cool.
We had just got to the hotel at 7pm and crashed for a few hours and woke up at midnight to roll on out to Tresor.  Oh yea,  I was told not to show up till then because although the place opens at 10pm no one shows up till midnight and who knows when they close because we rolled out at 7am and it was still bangin.

Very minimal pat down at the door and no clothing check so you can prettty much come as you are.
Once in I felt like I was at a typical wearhouse party in Detroit:  dark, industrial concrete walls, smokey, bass thumping from some place still unknown.  We first explored all the areas and saw many little resting "nooks" and plenty of space for everyone.  On the main floor was a decent sized bar that was never rushed.  I remember just days ago being in Baltimore in a club on a Friday night and the bar looked like a catfish farm at feeding time.  People 3 deep just shoving bills in bartenders faces and spilling drinks all over the place and bartenders never really able to keep up.  What a mess.  But here people were drinking all night long and there was never any rush at the bar.  Oh and check this (listen up Baltimore!):  There were about 10 large cushioned boothes with tables for party goers.  Guess how much a table cost?  No, not $1000,  it didn't cost anything.  Come as you are and don't worry about making everyone think you're a baller because you shelled out 2 paychecks to look like you have money to burn.
And the music?  Bangin! Great live sets from Yore Records artists Todd Sines (Yore/NYC) and Andy Vaz (Yore/Koln).  It was just booty shakkin' techno and everyone was dancing!  Granted, Germans aren't gonna win any dance contests but they got heart.  And they don't get all candied out but look grown up and pretty much handled their business.  Didn't see any fights, no one got thrown out, no one puked in anyone's hair, no women were groped.  That in itself was a treat.
In the downstairs was quite possibly the most bangin event of the night as I learned that Mario de Fer (Octopus/Santiago Compostela) was spinning.  All vinyl techno and just nonstop crushing.  This is what I came to see and hear and I was not disappointed at all.
So when we rolled out it was 7am and the sun had been up for a few hours already.  I felt like I was 20 again.
