After a disgusting night on the train, I arrived in Bangkok at 6:45am to Hualampong Trainstation. Ignoring the calls from taxis and tuktuks I made a beeline across the street to the underground. Nice! The subway is just as clean, airconditioned and beautiful as the skytrain. I exited at the Silom street stop and started walking in the direction of the Tower Inn Hotel. After a bit of confusion due to a new name and a slightly different location from the guidebook, I arrived an booked a room for my last two nights in Thailand. A shower and some lunch prepared me for exploring Siam Square, a huge shopping area, just a skytrain ride away from my hotel. I found a mall with an entire floor dedicated to luxury sportscars - Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborgini, and Lotus were all represented! In the same mall was also a IMAX theatre and a huge aquarium. Craziness! Tired of shopping, I decided to check out Jim Thompson's house since it was nearby. Mr. Thompson was an American expat famous for blending Thai and American architecture in his gorgeous canal - front home and for helping renew interest in the Thai silk industry. It was truly a beautiful tropical home, only lacking in air conditioning. It's too bad they don't allow photographs to be taken inside the home, where most of the beautiful things are.
