I spent the entire morning on the cave tour. It started with a slowboat ride up the Mekong. About 1 hour into it we stopped at a Whiskey production village...apparently they used to be a jar-making village, but now only FILL the jars with booze. I felt as if the entire village was set up for tourists...blah. When we got to the caves I found them to be a bit of a dissappointment as well. Besides everyone asking for a cash handout to "help preserve the caves", after we'd already paid an admission fee (??what's the fee for then???), they were not too interesting to look at. On the way back to Luang Prabang, we stopped at yet another village set up for tourists, this one was a paper-making village. Even though the actual destinations were dissappointing, I did enjoy being out on the Mekong...atleast the morning wasn't an entire waste.
I'm having a hard time decided where to go next. Nong Khiaw or Muang Xai? I'll have to pick soon and book my way out of this town!
Hey! It's your bro. This travel log is pretty sweet! I had no idea you've been updating it so often. It was fun to go back and read all your international exploits.
It's great to hear you've found some more interesting places than the tourist-ridden Bangkok. I'm almost jealous... then I read about the sauna-like heat and I'm glad I'm still in a temperate 75.
