The first night we stayed there we met some locals at a restaurant/bar whilst we were having dinner all they wanted to do was to come and talk to us! They were already pretty drunk by 11pm. We had a pizza and a few drinks, it was a great laugh. In the morning we didn't know what to expect but what we woke up to was amazing. A bright coloured cottage on the beach front. Went for a walk around the cape to see if we could see any sea lions. We found them near the lighthouse, although there we rent many and it was fenced off and we couldn't get closer. Alot of the sea lions are on a separate island off the coast maybe 500meters away. There was quite a few dead fish and we even saw at least two dead sea lions on the beach. Everyone is pretty relaxed here and no one bothers to clean up the beach. To finish off the day it was cervesa (beer) and crackers sitting on chairs on the beach, waiting for the sun to set. Amazing!
The second night we met alot of people from our hostel and a few stragglers and ended up at a house party! (one of the only houses with a full generator! still only for basic things tho) It was nice to chill out with a few Argentinians, a Spanish girl, an Italian girl, a Slovenian girl, a few Americans and a German guy. The conversation was predominantly English even tho most of the people could speak Spanish except the three Aussies! (I am really wanting to get these Spanish lessons by now!) A great sober night out and ended it early - midnight!
The final day in Cabo Polonio consisted of blue skies, long walk on the beach and the 4wd trip back to the bus station. A very sad day indeed. Arriving at the Montevideo hostel we find that I have a reservation but the boys reservation was canceled on them, so once again we are in the night looking for a hostel. Luckily we were directed by some nice locals on the street even if the street was very dodgy and by 10pm we had a place to stay. Went out to a little bit of an expensive steak house and drank some nice wine. Was a great end to such a long day.
