We are getting good at tempting fate with life's natural occurrences and visited the island of Ometepe.  The island was formed by the lava from two volcano's rising out of Lake Nicaragua.  The islands are beautiful and still pretty undeveloped.  We stayed at an eco lodge with an amazing view of Volcan Conception.  Very lazy, nothing to do but relax and enjoy the scenery.  We rented a motorbike one day and road around the island.  An act in insanity as the road is not paved and was filled with potholes and rocks.  Oy my aching tush!

On a sad note, we have never seen so many emaciated dogs and horses in our whole life.  All skin and bones. I want to feed them all and try to take leftovers from restaurants to give to dogs.  It is really sad and a cruel circle especially for the dogs.  They don´t serve much of a purpose (ie food, work) so they are not prioritized for food.  They do not have the money or means to fix them therefore many litters are born and left to life's chances.  It breaks our hearts.

The buses have been an adventure.  The ¨chicken buses¨ aka old US schools buses where any goes on and off has been much fun.  There is the driver and typically two other guys working the door in front and back.  They whistle and do hand signals out the window (so the driver can see in the mirror) to direct the driver.  I don´t want to suggest it because they probably would but it would just make more sense to completely remove the seats all together.  They server little purpose most of the time and they would make a whole lot more money.  They stop for everything and everyone to get on.

We are really enjoying Nicaragua and is definitely a top favorite country.  We stopped in the city of Granada for a couple of days and enjoyed the city life along with the colonial architecture.  It is a vibrant, active culture.  It feels like we are really experiencing a country rather than just seeing it.  Spanish class immersion starts on Monday and it will be intense.  We will be in Esteli for Spanish and a homestay for at least two weeks.  It will be nice to be in one place for a while.
