Yellowstone was like nothing we have ever seen before.  Amazing, diverse park filled with wildlife and beauty.  It is so accessible to people of all ages and capacities.  If you haven't gone, you must!  Probably our number 1 rated National Park we have visited.  Great park to take children to as there is so much to learn and see.  The park is still recovering from the 1988 fires that burned 36% of the park or 793,800 acres.  Many hillsides have been naturally reseeded and the baby tress are sprouting tall.

The diversity of the park's features is amazing.  Yellowstone is home to ½ the world's hydrothermal features.  There are geyser's shooting up all over, mud holes bubbling along paths with springs and pools with prismatic colors abound.  Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is on the east side of the park and is home to two large waterfalls.  The Absaroka Range still had snow on its peaks that reflect into Yellowstone Lake.  Yellowstone is also home to the largest Petrified Wood site in the world (Redwoods).  There was no shortage of wildlife!  We saw, literally hundreds of Bison all over the place.  One was laying right on the path of a hike we took and we had to make a detour as these big creatures can run up to 30 mph if provoked.   They also stop traffic during while grazing pastures and crossing the road.  We saw two black bears, a wolf and fox in the distance, yellow bull snake and a baby moose.  All in 2 days!

Our campground was even host to a bear.  Luckily, we didn't see him but the ranger drove through telling us there was one in our loop and to get in the car if we saw it.  Sort of freaked me out but exciting all the same.  We are, after all, visitors in their home.  The National Parks provide plenty of information to visitors on being "Bear Aware" on trails and in campgrounds and provide storage lockers to keep food while not in use.
