Hi Gang.

What a week. I have managed to stay pretty much out of harm's way and kept busy for the last 5 days. Lots of meetings in LA and hooking up with old and new friends. I even managed to get hung up for 36 hours with a nasty head cold.

Its not just a pain in the ass, its a natural state of being.

I have gotten in tune with it and learned to accept it. For the first time in the last 8 years, I have taken a trip to LA and not been on the freeway once! Its amazing. I dunno how i did it. I haven't sworn off or taken a pledge, the problem has simply been removed...Maybe tonight I'll go on a binge and drive every freeway in the west LA area to get a fix....

I posted pictures. My first day in town I had some time to kill so i took a walk out around Venice Beach. It was windy as all get out and kind of cold. Maybe that is how i got the head cold. Later that night, I ended up in "Thai Town", essentially a concentration of restaurants and a market or two on a stretch of Hollywood Boulevard. I thought the spirit-house was a pretty cool. I had some pretty good food, the number of thai people in the establishments acted as a testament to the quality.

Last night I went to a Dodger game with my friend Ryan. It was an auspicious night because it was the first time ever that the LAPD had been asked to come and provide security at the stadium. This story was all over the news in LA for the last 3 days. It was a sell out crowd and they had sold a bunch of $2 cheap seats. The media was making it sound as if they Dodger's were preparing for a riot in Chavez Ravine.

I didn't see a single cop. Go figure.

The biggest disturbance of the peace was when security would confiscate the beach balls being tossed about in the stands. Verrrrry dangerous beach balls...

Dodger's won, 7-4. A Braves grand-slam in the top of the 8th was followed by a Dodger grand-slam in the bottom of the frame. It was awesome. Its easy to forget that baseball is fun when we all we have is the Royal's....ouch.

Today I took my parents out to the farthest reaches of the valley to a place called Wat Thai. I read about it in a Thorn Tree post where it said they had a food market on Saturdays and Sundays. I figured it will be a long time before i could ever see my parents visiting Thailand so in the spirit of convenient substitution, we took a field trip.

It was great. Quite disarming to see the big demon guards standing watch over Coldwater Canyon Boulevard. The whole place felt like a little slice of the grand palace right in the middle of the San Fernando Valley.

As incense wafted through the air, My parents and I munched away on satay sticks, phad thai, gai phad krapow, fried bananas and mango on sticky rice. It was the BEST Thai food i have had since i came home. The place had everything but the go-go bars.

There is a school on the site and there were kids running around in their uniforms. I was happy because i was able to do all my ordering in Thai and get what i wanted. I was even able to pick out words here and there as i listened to people speak. It really got my juices flowing for this summer.

2 more days......just 2 more days.

I guess my folks had fun too because my mom spent the afternoon looking at the cost of tickets to Bangkok from LAX. Now that would be interesting.....

That's it gang. Next stop Tokyo.
