(S) As with so many of our experiences, we came to this place by accident. We were headed for Ljubljana and I was reading the campground descriptions from our camping book out loud to my chauffeur. I turned the page and saw the entry for Lake Bled. My cousin in Monaco had mentioned he came here with his parents and remembered it as a great place. The campground description was pretty flattering (which is saying something - European Camping was our camping bible, but also very straightforward and never exaggerated). So, we made a small detour and ended up at one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Our campground was on the banks of the lake and had a great restaurant. People shake their head and wonder if we're crazy when we tell them we camped throughout Europe but it was campgrounds like this one that made it easy and so very comfortable.
But enough of that - the pictures really tell the whole picture for this place.
(C) THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - How in the WORLD was Slovenia a part of Yugoslavia? It must have driven these people crazy to share their nation with the other Balkan peoples. Lake Bled makes me feel like I'm in Switzerland, NOT former Yugoslavia. The place is wealthy, well-organized, well-educated, and so alpine. It contrasts so powerfully against other areas of the Balkans. And this campground is the cleanest, nicest place I think I could ever dream a commercial campground could be. Wow! Well done Slovenia.
