There was an eariness to the way that everything started to quieten down as the Sabbath approached on Friday night. It seemed to reflect a deep held respect for something beyond the physics of earth's spin that was in control of our lives, a gift for which we should be grateful. Even the blaring music of my long haired and drugged out South African neighbour had ceased long before it got dark.

With everything closed on Saturday morning I grabbed a book - 'the informed soul' - that I found lying amongst the cigarette lighters and general mess on the table in the reception area of my apartment, and took a stroll to the nearby park.

I felt an air of holiness  as I sat on the grass in the suns warm rays and read the first chapter entitled 'the truth about religion'. There was some interesting stuff and some pretty convincing arguments -to someone brought up in a bubble. The bible makes predictions that have come true therefore it must be the word of God; Of course if the bible was written say around the 10th century in hindsight then it would be easy to make predictions about being exiled to Babylon and explain it as a group punishment for if we were badly behaved. It also pointed out that a religion will change your way of thinking. It certainly changed mine because having endured a typically grey summer in England I wanted to take off my T-shirt to soak up the suns rays, but I thought better of it for fear of being lynched.

For the rest of the day I explored the absorption centre, cleaned my apartment, and studied a bit of ivrit, and started to get quite bored. My uncle Brian and Aunt Ruth came to visit after shabbat went out and we went for a coffee.  I hoped there might be a party or something going on after that but couldnt hear anything so went to bed. Just as I was falling asleep I heard voices gtting louder and the reverberation of a shisha pipe throught my ceiling; the party had started start, but by then I couldnt be bothered.
