We made it to our final stop north Chiang Mai, for the people of Thailand the city is considered a national treasure. For us, it was a reminder of our trip here 7 or so years ago (our first to Thailand) and what great fun we had.
The old city is a neat square bounded by moats and remnants of a medieval-style wall built 700 years ago to defend against Burmese invaders. In today's timeframe a furious stream of traffic and people flow around the old city looking for food, drink and places to take a day trips.
We went to the night markets (start about 5:00 p.m.) held at different locations around the city and visited the famous Wat Chedi Luang which was built before the 1500's. As you can see from the pictures elephants held a very important place in Thai society that the Wat had statures of them all around. We also stopped by for what they call "Monk Chat" where we discussed the world news with them. It was very interesting to hear how they see things.
