We continued south to the city of Florence and the tiny town of Dunes City, which we explored two of Oregon's amazing natural wonders: the Oregon Dunes and Siltcoos Lake. Included within the Siuslaw National Forest, the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area stretches for 40 miles (64 km), the largest coastal sand dunes in North America. From where we stayed right off the dunes to the ocean it would be about a 2 mile walk taking 3 to 4 hours in the soft sand! We did not ever try.

Sitcoos Lake is Oregon's largest coastal lake, covering 3,200 acres (1,295 ha) and supporting trophy-size bass, perch, salmon and trout. You can see the lake from the top of the dunes, our RV park was between both of them.

The last group of pictures are those of downtown Florence, which is a scenic seaside community located at the confluence of the Siuslaw River and the Pacific Ocean. Conveniently located along the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway (Highway 101), with its walkable Historic Old Town.
