We made our way to Alleppey via a two hour taxi, for a look at the “backwaters.” With the Arabian Sea on its west and a vast network of lakes, lagoons and several freshwater rivers crossing the town it is know per the travel books as a very beautiful place, with some of rare migratory birds and diverse animal life on the water.

My pictures show many shots of those views, what I did not show was the growing of the “human impact” in the area and it’s negative effect. Trash, trash and more trash fill the areas that are not moving in the water. Plastic bottles are everywhere with no signs of stopping. We did not see any effort by the locals to clear-up or at least stop the destruction of the environment. We feel unless things change in the near future Alleppey and it’s backwaters will be taken off the tourist route of South India.
