We are now in Swakopmund (German for "Mouth of the Swakop") which is on the Atlantic coast of northwestern Namibia (see map above), 175 miles west of Windhoek, Namibia's capital.

Swakopmund is the main beach resort in the country and an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South-West Africa.

Buildings in the city include the Wörmannhaus, built in 1906 with a prominent tower, is now a public library (where the photo's were taken).

Attractions in Swakopmund include a transport museum, the National Marine Aquarium, a crystal gallery and spectacular sand dunes near Langstrand south of the Swakop River.

We spend about a week here getting ready to move to the capital.
