Tuesday 14th

Changed my mind several times today about which way to go, choices were either the coast route up the A1 or inland to Cania gorge. Cania was the longer route (300+ Km) but more inland and a better chance of seeing the real Australia. So we went on the Cania route. Just a few miles off the main A1 and we saw our first Kangaroos, there was a mummy and a juvenile just sitting by the side of the road, we didn't manage to get a picture because by the time the bus (camper van) responded to my foot on the brake pedal we were 200 meters past the roos. As I reversed back, after several attempts to engage reverse gear we just managed to see their buts jumping away across the field.

The rest of the drive was good and we stopped at a place called Gayandah to have a look round the shops, that is where we met the sewing / knitting people (they were crocheting, but wasn’t certain how to spell that). Pat you would have been so at home in there with all their patchwork, hope you like the pictures.

Nice town if a little on the outback side.

The camp site at cania gorge is brilliant they feed the birds here at 04:30 and there are loads of Parakeets cockatiels and other parroty type birds, they were all over us landing on our heads and hands and making a real racket with their raucous calls.

In the evening as we sat here drinking wine some little Kangaroo / wallaby type things came hopping past and stopped right in front of us and stopped just 8 feet away, that was really cool, they are so cute.
