Two lovely days in Bella Coola - I think this must be one of the most beautiful places on earth.  On Tuesday there were no bear viewing trips so I just lazed around the lodge, reading a book about bears and catching up on my sleep.  I also walked to the grocery store - this is the view on the walk.  Photos just don't do justice to how beautiful this place is; not my photos anyway but I bought a book with much better photos to show you all when I get home.

On Wednesday morning early we went out on the river again.  The weather was totally different, colder and gray with rain threatening (and and actually falling a couple of times) and the river looked completely different.  Unfortunately, there were no grizzlies out but we did see a very shy black bear.  A photographer friend of Frazer (the guide and one of the owners of Coast Mountain Lodge) came with us on this trip so even though we didn't see any bears, it was a very interesting trip.  Frazer and Mike told me a lot of things about bears and Bella Coola valley.

In the afternoon, I went into town with Frazer and his wife Holly.  The people in the valley are just lovely, so friendly.  This is a place like parts of Africa - it gets under your skin in a way that's hard to describe.  I would love to come back here some day.

I flew back to Vancouver from Bella Coola today.  The sky was very clear flying out of the valley through the mountains.  I could have taken pictures but sorry guys, I was so busy looking that I forgot all about the camera.

I'm staying at HI-Vancouver Downtown which is a hostel and something of a shock to the system after Coast Mountain Lodge.  I have a private room but it's a bit drab and of course the bathroom is down the hall.  Still, the room is clean, the bed comfortable, it's in a good location and there is a very nice back deck to sit in the sun.  I walked from Sunset Beach up to Third Beach along the seawall.  This is a lovely walk around English Bay.  (I'll show you on a map when I get home.  Our beaches at home are much nicer if you want to lay around in the sun though.

Off to Tofino tomorrow to see whales and black bears (hopefully).
