Vientiane still has a French feel to it, with numerous coffee shops and patissieres (too Hannahs delights) scattered around town, and some old colonial architechture it all makes for a very relaxed capital city. So far all weve mentioned in Lao's has been the western food we've eaten, we've actually eaten very few western meals since we've been away but we thought they're always worth a mention! We have also eaten some great Lao's dishes - Han particulary likes the curries (as they're coconuty) and the sticky rice, and Pauls favourite has been Laap Chicken - which is chicken ground with a big pestle a mortar with mint, chilli and other herbs to create a very spicy salad, which of course gets washed down with a large bottle of Beer Laos
As well as stuffing ourselves with food we managed to squeeze in some sight seeing, we visited Lao's version of the Arc De Triomphe - Patuxai which is a large unfinished monument built in the 1960's with US cement that was supposed to have been used for the construction of a new airport! We visited the Pha That Luang (World precious sacred Stupa) which is the symbol of Lao's sovereignty and the Buddhist religion (our pics of the Stupa are excellent). We spent several hours shopping (and eating) at Talat Sao (Market) where we bought several bargains including silk handcrafts and bamboo/paper decorative umbrella!
Next we moved onto Vang Vieng - Laos backpacker and party town!
- We will finally get round to adding our pics to the entries - but at the mo were simply having too much fun!
Or we're out in the sticks with no electricity!! Lao no worries!!xx
